The Ancient Britons is a section within the Club that was formed in 1980, with the aim of providing the senior members of the club who had retired from their full time employment and are over 55 years old, with a golfing experience suitable for their age bracket. Since those early days, the Ancient Britons have grown to over 100 members who are thriving on the experience of retirement. The ancient Britons are recognised as having a part to play within the total club structure. They meet every Friday morning throughout the year for friendly game of golf amongst their equals. They also play 30 matches, both home and away, against other clubs where they are able to enjoy a meal and a drink after the match, in order to talk about the chances they missed! Our course at The Common suits the retired player, no big climbs or deep valleys, a fairly flat course in reality. The Ancient Britons have their own competitions during the year with trophies available to the winners. The competitions include the Invitation day, in which we invite the clubs we play against to join us for a truly great day with many prizes, also they have the Christmas competition where everyone goes home with a prize. They are a good mix of people who enjoy a mug of tea or pint of beer after the game. Come and join us! |
